Barbara Newman is a practising artist who has been inspired by the beautiful and varied landscape of the Isle of Wight. She spent her childhood on the island and then trained at Portsmouth College of Art.
Besides raising a family, she found time to paint and develop her own work and now has many years experience in different types of media and forms of expression. Her subjects include landscape, seascape and portrait. As you can see from her galleries, she loves to paint animals, especially horses and dogs.
Barbara is a qualified adult education tutor and now runs her popular Barbara Newman's Painting Group at her home in Freshwater Bay, encouraging many techniques of drawing and painting, including the use of water colour, oil, pastel and pen and ink.
The group is quite small, catering for about 12 persons, which makes for very friendly and intimate painting sessions and makes them social occasions as well as painting sessions.
The purpose of this website is to display the work of some of Barbara's students, many of whom started with Barbara with no painting experience but with a desire to learn and paint; the results have been very impressive.
The students, whose work you can view by clicking on the appropriate name, are:
